Biography
A pioneer of New York graffiti, Mare139 emerged in the late 1970s in the South Bronx and Manhattan, where he made a name for himself with his wild-style pieces on subway trains. A visionary artist, he was one of the first to evolve graffiti lettering into sculpture, transforming letters into three-dimensional metallic forms inspired by Constructivism and Futurism.
In his practice, Mare139 explores the boundary between urban art and contemporary art, incorporating painting, sculpture, and new media. His work has been featured in numerous international exhibitions and at major institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Pera Museum, and the Urban Nation Museum in Berlin. Through his work, he actively contributes to the transmission and evolution of the history of contemporary graffiti.
