Biography
Born in 1986 in Quebec City and based in Montreal, Laurence Vallières is a sculptor and visual artist known for her monumental sculptures made of recycled cardboard. After studying visual arts and specializing in ceramics at Concordia University, she further developed her practice through a residency in Saint Petersburg, where she immersed herself in urban art.
Her work explores human relationships, communication, and political issues through animal figures: “When I recreate an animal, I want to recreate a feeling,” she says.
By choosing cardboard, a ubiquitous yet often discarded material, as her primary medium, she creates works that promote sustainability and critique consumerism, making her sculptures as much an environmental manifesto as an artistic one.
