Biography
Miss Van (also known as Vanessa Alice) began painting on walls at the age of 20, in 1993, sparking a significant women-led movement within street art. Originally from Toulouse, France, and having spent much of her artistic life in Barcelona, Miss Van has traveled the world painting her instantly recognizable female figures, both in public spaces and on canvas. For several decades, her work has been exhibited internationally, notably in Europe, the United States, and Asia.
Her recent artistic explorations have taken her to Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, the United Kingdom, and across Europe, marking a decisive return to street art after several years devoted exclusively to studio painting. This new phase infuses her works with greater depth, a more intense emotional charge, as well as a more pronounced delicacy and romantic darkness. Her iconic female figures reappear—sensual and enigmatic, sometimes concealed behind animal masks—moving through constantly shifting environments.
Set within ethereal and romantic compositions, her figures exude a surreal quality tinged with the burlesque, where raw power, gentleness, and emotion are delicately intertwined. As she herself points out:
“I evolve and grow along with my paintings. That’s the only way to go when you paint with your emotions and feelings. I try to stay true to myself.”
