Biography
A pioneer of New York graffiti, KEL1st established himself in the late 1970s as one of the leading figures of wild style. Quickly recognized as a cultural icon and a master of graffiti by his peers and critics alike, he made history by covering New York subway cars with bold compositions that would influence generations of artists.
He is featured in the cult film Style Wars, the first documentary to capture the emergence of graffiti and hip-hop culture. As a founding member of the legendary ROCSTARS, one of the most prolific crews of all time, KEL1st helped bring graffiti from the underground scene into the mainstream art world.
For over forty years, his work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, and at auctions around the world. A key figure in the movement, he remains a vital force in the transmission and evolution of contemporary graffiti art.
