Biography

Born in the Paris region and based in Canada since 2001, Jean Labourdette, also known as Turf One, is a self-taught artist whose work lies at the intersection of graffiti, painting, and contemporary surrealism. Active on the Parisian graffiti scene since the late 1980s, he has made a name for himself with his unique characters, imbued with a strange humanity and a mystical intensity.

His visual universe, drawing inspiration from the imagery of sideshows, traveling theater, the Flemish Primitives, and religious iconography, blends the sacred and the grotesque with a delicate irony. Labourdette creates enigmatic figures that oscillate between beauty and unease, between a reliquary and a memento mori.

Today, his work explores the human and animal soul, the passage of time, and the blurred boundary between dream and reality. Represented and exhibited internationally, he occupies a unique place in the contemporary art landscape, at the crossroads of tattoo art, pop surrealism, and outsider art.
